HOS as applied to on call technicians

it would seem to me that no on call service could possibly fit into the HOS regulations. If I work from 7:00am to 5:30pm, I cannot drive after 9:00. Say I get a call at 1:30am the following morning, I can’t start working until 10 hours after I clocked out, so I can’t drive until 3:30am. Then if I take that call, I cannot drive past 5:30pm, and I couldn’t take a call until 10 hours after I clocked out. Seems impossible to make a call schedule compliant.

  There's no longer a 12 hour rule for requiring logs, only 150 air mile. I'm thinking short-haul exemption? Also, if you are intra-state and under 26K your state may have exempted you from all or most of the regs.
